Our Story

The Green Schools Collective partners with local councils to connect Independent, Catholic, and public schools, encouraging collaboration on climate change issues and sustainability. The initiative promotes resource sharing, supports youth-led environmental action, and helps educators and parents drive sustainable practices in school communities. Its goal is to build environmentally conscious communities through shared learning and impact.

Founder

Jenni Hagland possesses over two decades of experience in the environmental sector, beginning her career in London in 2005 with the Carbon Disclosure Project (now CDP). In early 2016, she relocated to Sydney with her two children and initiated grassroots initiatives at the local public school, establishing a sustainability parents’ working group, subsequently assumed the role of sustainability lead on the P&C, and facilitating the installation of solar panels at the local school. Building on these efforts, she collaborated with volunteer organisations to distil key sustainability messages and develop practical resources, enabling others to execute environmental initiatives more efficiently at schools all around the lower North Shore.

In 2023, Jenni founded The Green Schools Collective, an organisation that partners with local councils to foster networks among individuals championing sustainability within school communities and to provide resources for those seeking to enhance their environmental impact.

The Green Schools Collective continues to evolve, with a focus on providing education and support to students, educators, and parents as they pursue sustainability at their local schools. Together, they are cultivating a culture in which environmental stewardship is fundamental, empowering schools and the next generations to shape a more sustainable world.

Our Team

The Green Schools Collective relies on the support of our volunteers to ensure our events and meetings run smoothly.  Greeting students, educators and parents as well as documenting our initiatives by taking detailed minutes and photos, are incredibly helpful.  It is their enthusiasm for the local school community and our environment that helps make the Green Schools Collective thrive.

Joyce Lloyd (Administrator) joined the Green Schools Collective after a successful career in pharmaceuticals and health insurance in the US before developing a clinical research and disease management company in Australia. After the sale of her company, Joyce undertook climate science coursework with the aim of understanding how she could better contribute to climate change initiatives.  Joyce is now actively involved in the Mosman Community being a member of the Mosman Council Climate Action Consultative Committee, Mosman Parks & Bushland Association Committee and Team Zali Climate Action Group.

Julia Edgar (Web Design) supports the Green Schools Collective with website design and strategy. She joins the team alongside standing roles and volunteer commitments at community and sustainability organisations including Queenwood School’s Parents Association (Sustainability and Communications Coordinator), Mosman Preparatory School, and Mosman Council’s Bushcare and Community Links programs. She worked at the Nature Conservation Council of NSW following a move to Sydney in 2024 after a career leading digital strategy, marketing and communications teams in Asia and the US at firms including Amazon, HSBC, and T-Mobile.
